🚨 Important Note: This is a real expedition—for everyone, including us, Miki & Carlo!
This is a pilot trip: Anna, who has been part of our team for a year, has tested and selected the best partners to lead this adventure, but it will be our first time sailing through the Norwegian fjords. Even though we’ve already dived in the freezing waters of Iceland, we’ll be challenging ourselves alongside you, supported by SeilNorge’s team—professionals we trust completely.
It’s important to be aware that life onboard is hands-on and requires everyone’s cooperation. We will all be part of the crew, helping with small daily tasks like cooking and setting the table. This is not a luxury cruise—it’s a shared adventure in true Bonny & Gava style!
What ?
An unforgettable adventure sailing through Norway’s fjords, searching for orcas and humpback whales in their natural habitat!
Each day, we’ll raise anchor surrounded by Arctic landscapes, navigating between snow-covered mountains and pastel-colored skies. And Each night we’l find the best spot to sleep waiting for the Northern lights to dance across the sky.
Where ?
In Norway, among the Arctic fjords. We’ll depart from Tromsø, sailing between remote islands and breathtaking inlets, following the herring shoals and the orcas that hunt them.
Our home for the week will be a fully-equipped sailing vessel, designed to handle harsh Arctic conditions, providing us with an authentic sailing expedition experience. We’ll also stop in small villages along the way, taking in the stunning scenery at every turn.
When ?
November 3 – 9, 2025
Join us for 7 days in the heart of the Arctic!
November is the best time to see orcas and humpback whales, as they follow the herring migration along the Norwegian coast. The days will be short, with only a few hours of light, but that makes the atmosphere even more magical—think fiery sunsets and endless starry nights illuminated by the Northern Lights.
Who ?
This trip is for a small group of up to 8 people, all passionate about the ocean, wildlife, and adventure. Whether you’re traveling alone, with friends, or as a couple, this expedition is perfect for those dreaming of a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
No sailing experience is needed—our expert crew will be there to guide you safely every step of the way.
If you’ve always wanted to swim with orcas and explore Norway’s fjords aboard a sailboat, this is your chance! 🚢❄️🐋
Highlights of the trip

Accommodation
Our expedition vessel will be Valiente, a 70-foot stable and comfortable steel vessel, built for Arctic waters.
It is well equipped with large outdoor areas, a warmed up wheelhouse, and a saloon with a 360-degree view. We’ll have a central heating system, a dedicated watermaker, large tanks for both water and diesel, a washing machine and a dishwasher.
The cabins are cozy, to ensure a refreshing rest after intense days of exploration. At our disposal we will have 5 double cabins: 3 with a double bed and private bathroom and 2 with bunk beds that share a private bathroom.
The common areas are spacious and designed for socializing, while the open deck spaces allow for breathtaking views—imagine spotting orcas gliding through icy waters, or the Northern Lights dancing above us!
On board, we will have a RIB tender that seats 7 people, a dinghy, and SUP boards.
Our skipper and crew will ensure a safe journey. With deep knowledge of orcas, whales, and Arctic navigation, they’ll guide us through these waters while sharing fascinating Viking legends.

Program
Day One - November 3 | Welcome aboard!
We meet at the pier in Tromsø guest harbor at 4:00 PM. After a warm welcome from the crew, we settle into our cabins and go through a safety briefing and an overview of the week’s itinerary. In the evening, we’ll have our first dinner on board as we begin sailing towards the orca-watching areas. If the weather is on our side, we might even catch our first glimpse of the northern lights!
Day Two - November 4 | Sailing towards Kvænangen
We wake up full of excitement, hoping for our first encounter with orcas and humpbacks.
After breakfast, those interested can attend a sailing lesson as we navigate around the Lyngen Peninsula. We’ll have lunch on board and set course for Kvænangen, sailing through the fjords with stops to admire the snow-covered landscapes. If the skies are clear, we’ll go ashore to light a bonfire on the beach. For the night, we’ll anchor in a bay or dock at a small port.
Day Three - November 5 | Whales, sauna & polar plunge
The day starts with an early breakfast as we set out to search for orcas and whales during the precious daylight hours. Our goal is to find the herring schools because where there’s food, there are also predators. Orcas and humpbacks on all sides and a horizon full of whale blows is of course our wish for today—ready to put on your drysuit and mask?
Daylight fades quickly, and as soon as it gets dark, we begin our sail towards Spildra, a small village where we’ll have the chance to enjoy a sauna (followed, for the bravest, by a dive into the icy sea!) and spend the evening at a cozy local pub with the few residents of the island.
Day Four - November 6 | Orcas & humpbacks
Today’s focus remains on orcas and humpbacks. We’ll set sail early in the morning, continuing our search for herring. First, we’ll look for the seagulls that follow the fish. Once we locate the herring, we’ll most likely find the whales as well.
A sailboat offers a quiet and non-intrusive approach to marine wildlife, allowing for a more ethical and respectful experience when observing these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat. As we sail, the soft Arctic winter light creates the perfect conditions for capturing breathtaking photos of the landscape and wildlife.
In the evening, we’ll anchor in a calm bay or port, hoping that the Green Lady will make an appearance to end the day on a truly magical note.
Day Five - November 7 | Exploring the wild
Continuing our search for whales, we’ll head to the best-known areas for sightings, following any clues we gathered the day before. By now, we’ll be so comfortable in our drysuits that we might as well sleep in them! Aside from whales, we may also encounter other wildlife that thrives in the region.
In the afternoon, we can go ashore for a hike on the nearby islands or join a photography workshop. Once again, as night falls, we’ll keep our eyes on the sky, hoping to catch a glimpse of those mesmerizing green lights.
Day Six - November 8 | Capturing the magic
Our last day of whale watching! The crew will take us to the most promising areas based on recent sightings.
During the day, as we slowly make our way back toward Tromsø, we’ll have the chance to experiment with our cameras, capturing stunning landscapes and, hopefully, some final shots of the whales in action.
As the sun sets, we’ll light a bonfire on a remote beach, sharing stories and reminiscing about the incredible moments from our expedition. And of course, we’ll be watching the sky for one last northern lights show.
Day Seven - November 9 | Return to Tromsø & farewell
Our journey comes to an end with a final breakfast on board. We pack up, tidy everything, and at 10:00 AM, we say our goodbyes at the dock where it all began.
An unforgettable expedition to the heart of the Arctic is officially complete. Thank you all for being part of this amazing adventure!
Program Adjustments
This itinerary is a guideline and may be adjusted based on weather and sea conditions to ensure the best experience for everyone. We’ll always have a dinghy with us for beach landings and small shore excursions. We’ll also be equipped for fishing and trekking—this is a true adventure, and we’re ready for it… are you?

Miki & Carlo
Freediving Instructors
We founded Bonny & Gava four years ago and since then we have been traveling the world and experiencing so many amazing destinations!
For the past two years, we’ve been curating group trips for people like us, people who wanted more than the average tourist experience, people who love spending time in the water and exploring the underwater world, people who wanted to dive into the culture of a place and go back home with more than just pretty pictures.
After seeing orcas in action in Australia, we fell in love with them, and we can’t wait to meet them again—this time, in the water! We’re not exactly fond of cold water, but it’s a small price to pay to witness these apex predators in action. And let’s be honest—the best experiences happen outside your comfort zone!

Dive Deeper, Leave No Trace
Our goal is not just to embark on an extraordinary adventure but to do so while respecting the environment. The ocean and the Norwegian fjords are unique, fragile ecosystems, and we are committed to leaving them better than we found them. That’s why, if we encounter any litter along our sailing route, we’ll collect it.
Throughout the journey, we will follow the best practices for sustainable tourism: we’ll sail as much as possible (and use the engine as little as possible) to minimize our environmental impact, we’ll reduce plastic usage on board and we’ll strictly follow ethical guidelines for wildlife encounters.

F.A.Q.
What is the starting time of the trip?
Boarding will take place at 4:00 PM on November 3rd at the pier in Tromsø guest harbor.
What is the ending time of the trip?
We will say our goodbyes at 10:00 AM on November 9th at the same dock where we started, after breakfast, packing up, and tidying everything up.
How Do I Get To The Tromsø Harbour?
Once your international flight lands in Tromsø (TOS), you’ll need to take a bus or taxi, which will get you to the harbour in about 20 minutes. If you arrive a day early, we can suggest some accommodation options in the city.
Make sure you can be at the port by 4:00 PM. If needed, we recommend arriving in Tromsø one day before departure. Feel free to email us if you need assistance—we’ll be happy to help you organize everything.
Does Norway Require A VISA?
It depends on your nationality. Most European travelers do not need a visa, but we strongly recommend checking the latest entry requirements based on your nationality/residency before departure. If a visa is required, please check the processing times as soon as possible.
What Are The Sleeping Options?
We will have 5 double cabins:
- 3 with a double bed and private bathroom
- 2 with bunk beds, sharing a private bathroom
Cabins are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis—the sooner you let us know, the better your options!
You can share a cabin with a friend or partner traveling with you, or you’ll be paired with another participant. We will match solo travelers based on gender, age, and interests to ensure the best possible experience.
What If I’m Traveling Solo?
This is a great opportunity then! The majority of our guests are young (<40 years old) solo travellers looking to make awesome ocean friends. We also get couples who are up to have some fun with other like-minded people. All in all, we’ve always had AMAZING groups and EVERYONE has made incredible friendships during our group trips.
What If I Am Vegan? Or Have Allergies?
If you have dietary restrictions or food allergies, please let us know in advance, so we can ensure you have suitable meals.
You are also welcome to bring your own snacks or special dietary items.
Before departure, the SeilNorge team will plan the menu and purchase all necessary ingredients. Meals will be cooked by everyone on a rotating basis, with the help of the skipper and guides.
What Skill Level Is Required?
No sailing experience? No problem!
Whether this is your first time on a sailboat or you’re a seasoned sailor, this trip is designed for all levels and will be an inclusive and enjoyable adventure.
Although this trip does not require certifications or sailing experience it is still important to note that it is an adventurous trip, weather conditions can be difficult to handle as well as life on the boat. If this doesn’t scare you too much then we look forward to an amazing week together!
What Do You Expect From Me?
For the safety of everyone on board, you won’t just be a passenger—you’ll be part of the crew! Everyone must know what to do in critical or emergency situations, and the SeilNorge team will guide us through all necessary procedures.
This trip requires team effort:
- We’ll sail, dock, navigate, and track whales and icebergs together.
- We’ll prepare meals, set/clear the table, and help keep shared spaces tidy.
Basically… we’ll all be in the same boat—literally! These shared moments will bring us closer together and create unforgettable memories.
It’s also important to remember that nature is unpredictable: we’ll do our best to create incredible encounters with whales, but wildlife sightings are never guaranteed—every sighting is a gift from Mother Nature!
Should I Bring Extra Cash?
There won’t be any extra expenses on board, but if you want to buy snacks, souvenirs, or optional activities in the ports we visit, credit cards are widely accepted in Norway. If it makes you feel more comfortable, we recommend withdrawing some NOK in cash in Tromsø.
Is There Wi-Fi On Board?
No, but there is good cellular coverage in most areas of Norway.
We recommend purchasing an eSIM online if your phone is compatible or getting a Norwegian SIM card in Tromsø before heading to the port.
What Kind Of Electrical Outlets Are On Board?
- While sailing, we can charge phones and cameras using USB ports.
- When moored at a quay with shore power, we can use EU 220V outlets.
We recommend bringing a power bank and, if necessary, a travel adapter (especially if you’re coming from outside Europe).
Can I Pack In A Hard-Shell Suitcase?
If you can, don’t.
Space on board is limited, and large suitcases are difficult to stow.
Therefore, if you decide to come with a hard suitcase, you will have to rent a locker to hold it during the week.
We will probably do this, get on board, empty the suitcases, and then go back ashore to drop them off. Then we will repeat the process in reverse on the return.
What Should I Pack?
Pack as light as possible (max 20 kg ideally) and bring a soft, non-rigid bag.
You don’t need to buy special sailing gear—regular outdoor/hiking clothing will work just fine!
In summary, you’ll need a waterproof/windproof outer shell and warm layers underneath.
-Clothing
- Standard hiking/outdoor clothes and enough changes
- Thermal base layers, ideally wool
- Wool socks (multiple pairs) and wool soles
- Warm, windproof hat
- Windproof or waterproof gloves
- Neck, buff or scarf, preferably wool
- Warm wool sweater, ideally high-neck
- Warm trousers, preferably lined (for use on trips or on deck)
- “Normal” clothes (your travel clothes?), for restaurant visits or land excursions.
-Outdoor Gear
- Waterproof jacket and trousers (Sailing gear / rain gear). Possibly two sets, one heavier on board for sailing in heavy weather, and one light wind/waterproof set for hiking on land.
- Warm winter jacket (ideally PrimaLoft or something that can withstand a little water)
- Lightweight shoes, to use on board inside and outside on deck in good weather (we recommend Crocs, ideally one or two sizes bigger to fit thick socks)
- High or low hiking boots (for shore excursions)
- Winter rubber boots (large enough to wear with wool socks and soles)
-Freediving Gear
- Bring your own mask and snorkel if you have them
- For long hair: a silicone swim cap helps when putting on the drysuit
- For men with mustaches: shave the top or bring vaseline to help the mask seal
- A poncho or windproof layer for changing (the suits don’t insulate well on land).
- If bringing a wetsuit (at least 7mm), don’t forget: a hood, gloves, booties, fins, weight belt, weights & a 1.5L empty bottle for soapy water to help put on the wetsuit.
-Other Essentials
- Sunglasses
- Small waterproof backpack for shore excursions
- Earplugs (for light sleepers)
- 0.5-1L water bottle
- Towel, swimwear, and rubber sandals/Crocs
